I took a trip down memory lane and looked at some of Sims 4's trailers, and those expansions and game packs that subverted expectations in sometimes big ways.

EA needs some competition. They've taken their customers far too much for granted.

I like potatoes

If they showed what the pack actually looked like people wouldn’t buy it.

I just hate how the hospital is? NOBODY WORKS THERE EXCEPT ME. There's no rush. So unrealistic.

what triggers me the most is when the trailer shows a world full of sims but in the game it's just .... embarrassingly empty.

The Sims 4 loves making surrealistic trailers.

Sims: Let's spend more effort on the trailer rather than the game!

It's almost like they lie to us over and over...wait...

both university and snowy escape used that fake simstagram thingy to make the trailers more marketable and it made me so angry both times when i found out that they weren't in the game

i've never seen the get famous trailer before and it blows my mind how often we hear that animations were recycled because they're "too expensive" and yet......... we have facial expressions here that are serious and subtle that i don't think i've ever seen in the sims 4.

The mermaids got me excited since even though it is the Sims 4 I thought they would be at least as fleshed out as the Vampires...but no they just sing and have a conch shell. Also that "not real gameplay" stinks we never see actual gameplay in these trailers and the streams are with basegame plus said pack so they don't encounter Judith Ward and Marcus Flex everywhere 😂

I just can't get over the fact that they put a whole simstagram interface on the trailer of snowy escape

The Snowy Escape trailer also made it look like there would be an expansion/inclusion of Simstagram posts 😒

The Sims 4 Cynicism road is less of a lonely dirt road and more of a highway now.

you know those mobile games that have amazing trailers that make you think the game is gonna be awesome and full of action and then it's just bejeweled with a different look or some fighting type game where the only thing you do is tap several times on the screen to attack, that's what the sims 4 trailers are on the level of

bunny !

I just don't get gameplay trailers that don't consist of actual gameplay. Can you imagine if another game did that?

They're never gonna add any real weight to the sims 4 because the AI is so poor, because it was built on an engine designed as a Multiplayer game. But no one was complaining about the lack of Deep AI back in 2014, (we had other things to complain about). Now finally people are starting to see that every system in the sims 4 is the same. your sims have all these traits and icons and stuff that all result in giving your sim a moodlet. Moodlets have no weight because Sims are just little robots that go through the same limited animations which only are different for male and female. I'm sure they have great ideas for the sims 5, like story progression, a Cause/effect system, memory system that impacts behavior and relationship interactions, But the fact they've been doing only destination expansions shows that they can hardly alter The Sims 4's Core anymore cause it's becoming a mess.

lol i don’t even have the energy to complain about it anymore or list the myriad reasons why i’m disappointed. i feel completely alienated from my favorite gaming franchise.

I love that the team is putting effort into promoting, but IMO when you animate sims for artworks or add plenty of sims to the world in trailers, when in reality it's not the case, it sets the expectations apart. Bc you know they do special stuff to make the DLC look attractive but if you look at other games, regardless of simulation, if they're so good they don't need the added exaggeration since the content speaks for it self..

Let's be honest; if they didn't lie to us in the trailer would they be able to charge 40$ for their expansions? Absolutely not.

Imagine a realistic trailer for Island Living, it would be just screenshots of the backround.

(also, they're very aware that we're so starved for fulfilling content that we're willing to do the 80% of the lying to ourselves every. single. time.)
