Help!!! I’m trapped in Don Henley’s basement with 59 other people. It’s a copyright sweat shop. The conditions are horrible. He keeps saying, “you can clock out any time you want, but you can never leave.”

I remember some years back, I was on a Phil Collins message board and Phil himself did regular check-ins to answer questions. I also went to see his First Final Farewell Tour and he opened up the night by talking about the horrible reviews he was getting because he was only playing his hits. He said, "I'm not doing this tour for the critics; I'm doing it for you." He's just an everyday guy who lives for the fact that PEOPLE enjoy his music and couldn't care less about the business side of things.

"Do I care? ..No. Of course I don't. Let them listen. I'm just glad they are getting to know my music. I'm happy to grow a new fanbase. It's fine by me." - Phil Collins

Well said Phil. The guy's worth nearly $200m, he's not selfish enough to care. He's had his career. It's not as if he's going to start all over, and sell another 300 million records. He's just happy to know that kids are loving his music.

Kudos to him.

Don Henley must be ancient Egyptian the way he's planning on taking his mansion and riches with him to the afterlife.

You should lay off Don Henley. He’s under a lot of stress trying to finish his latest composition, “Get off my lawn!”

Just Some Guy

Rick, I found your channel because I was looking up videos about Pearl Jam and Chris Cornell, so I would definitely say that you're probably bringing a lot of people to artists they might not have listened to before.

"Out on the road today I saw a DeadHead sticker on a cadillac" Maybe Don Henley and the Grateful Dead estate should block each other. so they would each know how it feels.

Janis Ian doesn’t block. She even comments on the sites who play her music thanking them for sharing her music.

Tool and Phil Collins ( and others)understand that we all get better when we lift everyone up and share our knowledge and experience.
Elitists protect their secret knowledge out of fear and greed. Thanks Rick for lifting us up! You are literally making musicians, it is a beautiful thing. 👍

In a nutshell, YouTube blocks free marketing of older songs.

Imagine paying 60 people to ensure that your music isn't heard by new audiences.

The younger people doing these reaction-videos are really shining a spotlight on all of these old bands and providing a fun way for new generations to discover their music.

I'm a huge Steely Dan fan; 'Kid Charlemene' was never a favorite tune of mine, until your 'What Makes This Song Great?' video. I've gone back and uploaded into my playlist a lot more Led Zepplin because of your videos. Joni Mitchell's music, which I've always adored, has taken on a higher level of appreciation by me because of your videos. Some of these artists are destroying their legacy into posterity by fighting these videos.

This is how folk music thrives. The very essence of it is hearing it shared, played, and spread. When the music industry started its manic push to fight piracy, many underground and independent artists resisted it, because the truth is, music thrives when it's shared. It's the lawyers and pencil-pushers who worry about scraping every penny out of a piece of music, and the artists who agree with that behavior have been duped. Music is infinite, until you lock it down. Phil Collins didn't lose money by having those kids make their video, and he wouldn't have lost money even had they monetized it. Musicians profit when their music gets heard. Musicians suffer when corporate entities gatekeep that experience.

Would you straight up demonetize me?

Plot twist: It wasn't Rick singing out of tune, it was Mick Jagger.
